Thursday 21 November
Presence
“Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10). Lord, Your words lead us to the calmness and greatness of Your presence.
Freedom
“Leave me here freely all alone, in cell where never sunlight shone. Should no one ever speak to me, this golden silence makes me free.” Part of a poem written by a prisoner at Dachau concentration camp.
Consciousness
God, in Your loving presence I unwind the past day,
starting from now and looking back, moment by moment.
I gather in all the goodness and light, in gratitude.
I attend to the shadows and what they say to me,
seeking Your healing, insight, and forgiveness.
The Word of God
Luke 19:41-44 NRSVue41As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42saying, “If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43Indeed, the days will come upon you when your enemies will set up ramparts around you and surround you and hem you in on every side. 44They will crush you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave within you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.”,

Inspiration
Jerusalem, the city of peace, did not understand Jesus. He desired the best for it and lamented over it. Lord, open our eyes to the depth of your concern for us so that we may take your message more fully to heart.
This account can be seen as foretelling the destruction of Jerusalem, which would happen many years after Jesus’ death. We pray that we may recognise the time of God’s visitation in our lives, so that we can be more in tune with Jesus’ desire for us at this time.
Conversation
May Your Holy Spirit guide me
in all my dealings with others.
May I use the gift of speech with kindness.
Conclusion
I thank God for His gift of love
as I go forth with joy and hope
to serve His people.
Amen
