Friday 27 December •St John, Apostle and Evangelist
Presence
When I come into Your presence, O Lord,
I know I am in the presence of my Creator.
You created me out of love.
You even know the number of hairs on my head.
Your presence, O Lord, is the greatest gift of all.
Freedom
Thank you for the gift of freedom, Lord.
Grant that I may always choose to follow You.
Keep me ever mindful of Your ways,
of Your love and concern for all people.
Consciousness
How wonderful it is to be able
to enter into Your presence, Lord;
no matter what time it is,
no matter which land I am in,
I need only speak Your Name.
The Word of God
John 20:2-8 NRSVue2So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” 3Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. 4The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. 6Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, 7and the cloth that had been on Jesus’s head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. 8Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed,

Inspiration
Jesus gave the first news of his resurrection to the women who had faithfully followed him even to the foot of the cross. When they go and tell the apostles the news, they are not believed. But something of Jesus’ own words to them before his death seems to have come back to them, and Peter and John run to the tomb to see for themselves.
It has been said that human beings can take in very little of reality. Are there times when we have wavered in our faith in the love and faithfulness of our God towards us? Our prayer so often can be the prayer of the father whose son the disciples of Jesus were unable to cure: ‘Lord, I believe, help Thou my unbelief.’
Conversation
Jesus often asked questions of those who came to Him.
Let me sense Him close to me now,
listening to my prayer and asking
“How can I help you?”
“What can I give you?”
“What do you need?”
Conclusion
I thank God for His gift of love
as I go forth with joy and hope
to serve His people.
Amen
