Saturday 4 January
Presence
May my heart rejoice in Your love, O Lord.
Let me live each day anew.
Freedom
Lord, You created me to live in freedom.
Mostly I take this gift for granted.
Inspire me to live in the freedom You intended,
with a heart untroubled and with complete trust in You.
Consciousness
When I return to my everyday tasks,
remind me, Lord,
that You are always there beside me.
I need never despair.
The Word of God
John 1:35-42 NRSVue35The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, 36and as he watched Jesus walk by he exclaimed, “Look, here is the Lamb of God!” 37The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. 38When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher), “where are you staying?” 39He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon. 40One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41He first found his brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated Anointed). 42He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).

Inspiration
These two disciples of John had taken to heart his preaching about the One who was to come. Now that he has pointed Jesus out to them they will not miss this chance to meet him. Their response to his invitation to, ‘Come and see’ will change their lives totally. We, too, are invited to ‘Come and see.’
One of the first questions Jesus asks of all his disciples is, ‘What are you looking for?’ In his Spiritual Exercises St Ignatius stresses the importance of the desire for God. ‘You will seek Me and you will find Me when you seek Me with all of your heart.’
Conversation
Your own words, Lord, taught me how to pray.
The beautiful “Our Father”
contains all I would wish to say.
Conclusion
Filled with the loving presence of God,
I ask Him to bless me and guide my steps
as I go to do His work in my daily life.
Amen
