Tuesday 25 February
Presence
Dear Jesus, today I call on You in a special way. Mostly I come asking for favours. Today I’d like just to be in Your presence. Let my heart respond to Your Love.
Freedom
“I am free.”
When I look at these words in writing,
they seem to create in me a feeling of awe.
Yes, a wonderful feeling of freedom.
Thank You, God.
Consciousness
Dear Lord, help me to be always
aware of the important things in life,
to care for those around me,
to seek Your presence in everyone I meet.
The Word of God
Mark 9:30-37 NRSVue30They went on from there and passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it, 31for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.” 32But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him.
33Then they came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” 34But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest. 35He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” 36Then he took a little child and put it among them, and taking it in his arms he said to them, 37“Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”

Inspiration
Jesus had just told his disciples that he would be helpless against his enemies and would be put to death, but all this went over their heads. Human power and greatness were what mattered to them. So Jesus takes and embraces a little child as an example to them to cherish those who are powerless and dependent on others. The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life in service of others.
One of the great lessons on our Christian journey is the lesson of humility. St Teresa of Avila wrote, ‘Humility is truth.’ We all need to grow in the truth of our own littleness and complete dependence on God.
Conversation
To communicate we don’t always need to talk.
Can I imagine myself sitting quietly with Jesus?
I looking silently at Him and He at me.
How do I feel?
Conclusion
I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.
Amen
