Tuesday 20 May •St Bernardine of Sienna, Priest
Presence
As I enter this time of prayer, I become aware of my breath that is God’s life-sustaining gift to me. I allow myself to breathe a little more slowly, deeply and gently for a couple of moments.
Freedom
Lord you gave me life and the gift of freedom.
Through Your Love I exist in this world.
May I never take the gift of life for granted.
May I always respect the right to life of others.
Consciousness
Lord, grant that I may always desire
to spend time in Your presence.
May I not forget Your goodness to me.
Guide me to share Your blessings with others.
The Word of God
John 14:27-31 NRSVue27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. 28You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. 29And now I have told you this before it occurs, so that when it does occur you may believe. 30I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me, 31but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us be on our way.

Inspiration
From our daily news it would appear that our world has never been in more need of peace. We all long for it, but the world will only find it in Christ. It is his special gift to his followers, and it will take away distress and fear from their lives. Let us pray for this peace now.
We should be happy for Jesus and rejoice with him that he is now about to go home to his beloved Father. For him to have left heaven and come to walk our human journey for our sake showed extraordinary love. We give him thanks in prayer and ask for some of his courage and love.
Conversation
Friends don’t keep secrets from one another.
As I pray, can I look at Jesus as my friend
and share my innermost thoughts with Him,
trusting that He understands?
Conclusion
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
Amen
