Monday 16 June
Presence
I hear the Lord whispering my name, inviting me into this time of prayer. I let all other distractions fall away as I bask in the blessing of the nearness of God.
Freedom
By God’s grace I was born to live in freedom,
free to enjoy the pleasures He created for me.
Dear Lord, grant that I may live as You intended,
with complete confidence in Your loving care.
Consciousness
How wonderful it is to be able
to enter into Your presence, Lord;
no matter what time it is,
no matter which land I am in,
I need only speak Your Name.
The Word of God
Matthew 5:38-42 NRSVue38“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39But I say to you: Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also, 40and if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, give your coat as well, 41and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. 42Give to the one who asks of you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.

Inspiration
The human race has made slow progress in its understanding of the ways of God. In the primitive understanding of God’s people, it was okay for God to get angry and vengeful. But God, who never changes, did not do that. Here, Jesus clearly reveals to us that our God is a God of mercy and love for all. And Jesus calls us to ‘be merciful, as your Heavenly Father is merciful’ (Luke 6:36).
Conversation
Lord, I know that when I turn to You there is no need for words.
You can see into my heart.
You know my desires and You know my needs.
I place myself into Your hands.
Conclusion
Filled with the loving presence of God,
I ask Him to bless me and guide my steps
as I go to do His work in my daily life.
Amen
