Presence
I bring myself into Your presence, O God.
May I always take time to notice and enjoy
the beauty You have created
for my pleasure.
Freedom
“A thick and shapeless tree-trunk
would never believe that it could become a statue,
admired as a miracle of sculpture,
and would never submit itself to the chisel of the sculptor,
who sees by his genius what he can make of it.” (Saint Ignatius)
I ask for the grace to let myself be shaped by my loving Creator.
Consciousness
Conscious of Your presence, Lord,
I look over my recent past.
Let me be honest with myself about how I’ve been
and what I’ve done,
because I know You love truth in the heart
and accept me just as I am.
The Word of God
Matthew 5:43-48 NRSVue43“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44But I say to you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. 46For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the gentiles do the same? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Inspiration
Our Christian religion was meant to bring to our world love, joy, peace, forgiveness, kindness, courage, perseverance, and all the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We are called to strive to ‘be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect’. The demands of the kingdom are indeed high, but what a different world it would be if we could even aim at this standard. Let us pray to do our own little part in bringing about a new world where hatred is dissolved in mercy and where kindness rules.
Conversation
Jesus, You are always there waiting for me.
Sometimes I get bogged down
with the concerns of this life.
Grant that I may be still more often,
To know Your peace, Your calm.
Conclusion
I thank God for His gift of love
as I go forth with joy and hope
to serve His people.
Amen
