Tuesday 12 August
Presence
“I stand at the door and knock,” says the Lord. (Revelation 3:20). What a wonderful privilege that the Lord of all creation desires to come to me. I welcome His presence.
Freedom
I need to close out the noise, to rise above the noise:
the noise that interrupts, that separates,
the noise that isolates.
I need to listen to God again, in stillness and quiet.
Consciousness
Jesus, thank You for this moment where I am conscious of Your presence with me. Help me to be more and more aware of Your presence in my daily life, and in everyone I meet.
The Word of God
Matthew 18:1-5,10,12-14 NRSVue1At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2He called a child, whom he put among them, 3and said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
10“Take care that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I tell you, in heaven their angels continually see the face of my Father in heaven., 12What do you think? If a shepherd has a hundred sheep and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? 13And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. 14So it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.

Inspiration
In Palestine in Jesus’ time the mortality rate among children was high, so they were not highly regarded.
God loves everything that exists and he wants us all to be with him in heaven. But because we have free will we can refuse to go along with his plan for us. We pray in the Our Father that his will may be done.
Conversation
What feelings are rising in me as I pray and reflect on God’s Word?
I imagine Jesus Himself sitting or standing near me and I open my heart to Him.
Conclusion
I thank God for His gift of love
as I go forth with joy and hope
to serve His people.
Amen
