Wednesday 17 September
Presence
“You show me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalm 16). Lord, help me to live in Your presence today.
Freedom
Lord, like Saint Ignatius, I offer you my memory, understanding,
my entire will. All I ask for in return is Your love and Your grace – that’s enough for me.
Consciousness
Knowing that God loves me unconditionally,
I can afford to be honest about how I am.
How has the last day been, and how do I feel now?
I share my feelings openly with the Lord.
The Word of God
Luke 7:31-35 NRSVue31“To what, then, will I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? 32They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another,
‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.’
33“For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon’; 34the Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ 35Nevertheless, wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”

Inspiration
The people in Judea and Galilee were given an extraordinary opportunity as their God walked among them and worked great wonders. For centuries, people had longed to see what they saw and never saw it, to hear what they heard and never heard it. But in the hardness of their hearts, their leaders shut the eyes of their minds to it. There are none so blind as those who do not want to see.
‘He is a demon, or he is a drunkard.’ How easily we put up excuses for our own waywardness and excuse ourselves for not living up to our Christian calling. We pray, ‘Lord, that I may see.’
Conversation
What word or phrase has caught my attention from today’s Gospel? I ask the Lord what He wants to say to me through this word…
Conclusion
I thank God for His gift of love
as I go forth with joy and hope
to serve His people.
Amen
