Presence

“Be still and know that I am God”. (Psalm 46:10).
Lord, may Your Spirit guide me to seek
Your loving presence more and more,
for it is there I find rest and refreshment from this busy world.

Freedom

Everything has the potential to draw forth from me a fuller love and life,
yet my desires are often fixed, caught, on illusions of fulfillment.
I ask that You, God, through my freedom, may orchestrate my desires
in a vibrant, loving melody rich in harmony, in accordance with Your will.

Consciousness

As I talk to You, O God,
help me to grow in appreciation of the gifts of communication.
Grant that I will speak out for those who have no voice
and always have a kind word for those in need.

The Word of God

¹⁴Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?” ¹⁵And Jesus said to them, “The wedding attendants cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Inspiration

We are reminded in today’s reading that we fast for a reason – to give ourselves more fully to God. The very discipline involved keeps our focus on the Lord and on being mindful and working for those around us who seem to be in greatest need.

Conversation

Lord, You have engraved my name
on the palm of Your hand.
Even if others forget me,
You never will.
