Pause
With prayerful attention, I take a moment to feel the chair beneath me and the ground beneath my feet. I listen for the quiet sounds that make up my day and ground me in this place, in this time. Holding my hands open in my lap, I give thanks that you are just as present with me here and now as you were with your disciples long ago.
Ask
Gentle Jesus, I know that you welcome all our prayers, so I share with you my prayer about my fear of the dentist. As I prepare for my visit, I carry a heavy burden of worry. I am afraid of pain, of expense, of hearing bad news. I ask for the grace of courage as I face my appointment, and for the gift of your presence with me.
Listen
Loving God, I open myself to the intercession of the communion of saints, remembering especially St. Apollonia, the patron saint of dentistry and of all who suffer from ailments of the teeth. I thank you that I am part of an ongoing chorus of prayer that stretches throughout the ages, connecting me to all who have sought your kindness and your help

Jesus, I envision you sitting in the room with me as the dentist begins the examination and work. I can hear your soothing voice, reminding me that you have made every bone in my body, and that your care extends to each and every one of them. I feel the touch of your hand on mine and know that I am not facing my fear alone.
Reflect
Lord, I know that you are the Good Shepherd, seeking me out when I am lost, drawing me close when I am alone or afraid. Thank you for hearing my prayer and for your gentleness toward me. I can feel the light of your love warming my heart and melting my fear. I set forth into my day with gratitude, carrying your peace within me.
