Pause
I turn my attention to my body as I enter into the calm space of prayer. I feel the sensation of my feet upon the floor, my arms resting against my sides, and my shoulders holding my body upright. I take note of any tension in my body and endeavor to release it. Turning my face toward God, I await the peace of God’s presence.
Ask
God, who knows me so intimately, hear the prayer I offer You today, a prayer for marriage. I ask for the grace of peace and deepening love, in my marriage or the marriage of a loved one. I ask also for the grace of joy, for the gift of being fully seen, fully known, and fully accepted within marriage.
Listen
Scripture tells us that a cord of three strands is not easily broken, and I imagine each marriage as a divine dance, a circle of love between the God who calls us beloved and us. I imagine each movement as a step that weaves all three strands closer together, and I pray that this might be so in my marriage or in the marriage of a loved one.
Share
I envision myself sitting with You, Jesus, beside a gently crackling fire, sharing my concerns about marriage with You. Without any sense of hurray, I open my heart to You in this peaceful space, awaiting Your consolation. As the warmth of the fire fills the room, so is my heart warmed by Your love and tender care for me and for the marriage I bring to you in prayer.
Reflect
I take note now of the movements within my heart during this time of sacred conversation with You, God. As I recall the journey we have taken together during this time of prayer, I pause to offer my thanks for any new insights or consolations, for any beautiful views we have taken in together along the way we have travelled. God who listens, thank you for hearing my prayer for marriage, and for Your loving and gracious response.
