Pause
I take several deep breaths to ground myself in this moment as I turn to prayer. I imagine that the air I breathe is filling my body with holy light and attuning my spirit to Your goodness.
Ask
Jesus, I welcome You into my deepest longing, my desire for peace. As I offer you my prayer for serenity, I consider the Latin root of this word, a term used to describe the weather: clear, unclouded, calm. I ask for the gift of abiding in this place of peace with You.
Listen
As I open my heart to You, I remember the promise given to us in Philippians, the promise of a peace that passes all understanding. I imagine myself experiencing that serenity amidst the choppy waves of a ship at sea alongside the composer of the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul.” I pray that even as “sorrows like sea billows roll,” I, too, might be able to say that it is well with my soul.

God, there are so many impediments to my embrace of serenity in my life: the pressures of work or school, family difficulties, and the fast pace of my daily life. Still, I believe that with You, all things are possible. I take a step forward to accept Your invitation into the great comfort of serenity, receiving the gift of Your peace.
Reflect
Breathing deeply of Your presence, I thank You for the gift of serenity, a peace that does not remove the stresses of my life, but accompanies me in the midst of them. I offer my gratitude for Your invitation to dwell with You in a place of peace.
