Pause
Placing my hands over my heart, I close my eyes or soften my gaze. I thank you for my heartbeat, for my breath. For this new day of life. For being with me today.
Ask
God, I pray for strength and peace. You know exactly what I need and why.
Listen
Hagar fled into the desert to escape abuse, vulnerable and completely at a loss for where to go or what to do. You saw her in her suffering, and You spoke to her; her pain was neither unnoticed nor insignificant. You, God of the Cosmos, were right there – in the desert with an oppressed woman lying low in grief and pain. You proclaimed a way forward, reassuring her that she was not and would never be alone.

God, give me the strength and peace that Hagar knew that day in the desert. See me, as you saw Hagar, when I am in need, when I am laid low. Let me rise up in my own strength and peace, like a desert flower, determined and resilient, up out of the deep underground stream of your power within me.
Reflect
Remembering Hagar, I remember your faithfulness. I remember you are with us, always. Not making things easy, but making things possible. A way opens. Inner strength prevails. You alone, O God, sustain me. Thank you for your constant companionship. You are my strength.
