Pause
As I turn toward prayer, I pay attention to the thoughts that fill my mind. I imagine loosening my grip on the things that occupy me, letting my thoughts float by me like clouds. I take several deep breaths as I clear my mind, arriving at last in an uncluttered space with only blue sky above. I am ready to meet you in this place.
Ask
God of all generosity, I ask for the treasure that is greater than gold, wisdom. It is wisdom that teaches us to see clearly, to make good decisions, and to make sense of our lives and the world around us. As I face perplexing situations and arrive at critical junctures in my life, I ask for the grace of Your clarity as I proceed, holy wisdom accompanying me along my path.
Listen
James tells us in his letter that your wisdom is pure and peaceable, that it is gentle and willing to yield, that it is full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. With all my heart, loving God, this is how I want to live my life. Deliver me, Jesus, from any distraction or falsity that might impede my following the way of Your wisdom.
Share
Jesus, I openly share with You the situations in my life that most urgently call for the grace of Your wisdom. I so deeply desire to walk in Your light and to make good and holy decisions. Even in that desire to be like You, I sense Your loving presence, Your gentle call to me amidst the circumstances of my life.
Reflect
I give thanks to You, God, for the consolations of this time in prayer, for the ways in which You have heard me, and the ways in which You have responded. I offer my gratitude for the assurance that my desire for wisdom is a desire for You – for Your goodness, Your mercy, and Your unending love.
