Pause
Breathing in, I look gently at my hands. Breathing out, I trace the lines of my open palms with my eyes, noticing each finger and joint. I take a few breaths. I gently cover my heart with my hands, connecting to the life force that is always in me, ever at hand, closer to me than I am to myself. I place my hands on my temples. I breathe. Thank you, God, for my life.
Ask
I come to you today with a prayer for work. For these hands, capable, willing, to be put to good use. For this heart, beating within me to beat to the rhythm of mercy, of service. For this mind, often busy or anxious, to be drawn to wisdom, to discipline. I pray for meaningful work that allows me to live fully, offering my body, heart and intellect.
Listen
I recall the parable of the day labourers: some worked all day in the fields, while others worked only one hour. And how all were paid in full at the close of the day. How your distribution of goods and sense of justice are based not on limitations but on abundance. How whatever we offer is received with joy and repaid with more than we could ever try to earn

How I long to work a full day, fulfilled! Paid well, beyond what I can imagine! How I long to give of myself fully, body, heart and mind. How I long to hear you call my name, inviting me into the harvest, towards meaningful work in good company with inspiring and trustworthy leadership, with purpose. To make valued, valuable contributions. May my work respect my dignity, provide me a sense of pride, and satisfaction.
Reflect
God of Labour, help me to show up each day, dedicated to your mission of generous mercy and radical justice. Let this be my first vocation, always. Bless my hands, my heart, my mind. Help me discern what is mine to do. Bless me with fulfilling and meaningful work, that I might contribute to the harvest, that I might help build up your peaceable kingdom in how I spend my life.
