Friday 18 October •St Luke, Evangelist
Presence
“But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret”. (Matthew 6:6) God, You are my secret place, always dwelling within me, and I in You. May I put time aside each day to enter the inner room of my heart, in order to be with You.
Freedom
I ask for the grace
to let go of my own concerns
and be open to what God is asking of me,
to let myself be guided and formed by my loving Creator.
Consciousness
Lord, I bring to mind everyone who has asked for my prayers, and lay them at your feet, along with all my own needs and burdens.
The Word of God
Luke 10:1-9 NRSVue1After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. 2He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. 3Go on your way; I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. 4Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. 5Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ 6And if a person of peace is there, your peace will rest on that person, but if not, it will return to you. 7Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the laborer deserves to be paid. Do not move about from house to house. 8Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; 9cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’,

Inspiration
Luke has given us a gospel of compassion and mercy. The Father who sent Jesus among us, calls us and sends us in turn, with good news to others. We pray that we may share God’s compassionate love with the many people who need it.
The poor are prominent in the teaching of Jesus, as portrayed by Luke. There are many poor people now who need a message of comfort and consolation. May we be messengers of hope who proclaim God’s kingdom of justice, love and peace.
Conversation
Lord, help me to become quiet and calm enough to hear Your still, small voice. Help me to trust what I hear. Your Word brings comfort, consolation and encouragement. Everything else I let go of.
Conclusion
Filled with the loving presence of God,
I ask Him to bless me and guide my steps
as I go to do His work in my daily life.
Amen
