Sunday of the first week of Advent
God, let your healing light shine on me, bringing harmony to my inner being, as I open my heart to your word.
Isaiah 43:1
“But now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name; you are mine”.
This promise is true not just for followers of Jesus, but for everyone on this earth. This message is everything that I need to hear. Whatever is happening in this world or in our lives, this promise is calling us not to fear and has called us by name. Reminding us how we belong, valued and cherished, helping us to understand our worth and value in God’s eyes. All people are created by God and created in God’s image. All people are loved by God, and he knows the heart of each of us. Whether we are young or old, we long to hear this. Such a simple thing, but so powerful, to tell someone how proud you are of them, and how much you love them. When we are introduced to one another, we start a connection. The act of calling someone “mine” implies that you want to be in a relationship where you are exclusively theirs and they are yours. It signifies an unconditional, eternal love and commitment from both sides. God invites us to rest in him.
Lord, you call me by name and hold me as your own.
Awaken in me a quiet hunger for you.
Let my heart rest in the truth that I am loved.
Draw me closer into the stillness of your light and the warmth of your presence.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
