4th Sunday of Lent
I take refuge under the shadow of Your wings, and shelter from the storms of life during these few precious moments with you, Lord.
Sirach 14: 20-27 NRSVue
Happy are those who meditate on wisdom and who reason intelligently, who reflect in their hearts on her ways and ponder her secrets, pursuing her like a hunter and lying in wait on her paths; who peer through her windows and listen at her doors; who camp near her house and fasten their tent pegs to her walls; who pitch their tents near her and so occupy an excellent lodging place; who place their children under her shelter and lodge under her boughs; who are sheltered by her from the heat and dwell in the midst of her glory.
We live in a world fuelled by fake news. It is increasingly difficult to know who or what to believe. We can no longer accept that what we’re reading or watching is true. We can’t use not having time to check as an excuse. We need to be careful about what we believe. About who we believe. We need to meditate on wisdom and reason intelligently. Am I guilty of passing on fake news? Do I spread false testaments? Do I blindly believe everything I read in print? Or do I look for corroboration, making every effort to establish the truth before I share? Today, I give thanks for the intelligence the good Lord has given me. Today, I will use it to discern what is true.
Dear God, help me to discern the truth, to take time to reflect, and to use my intelligence wisely. Give me the gifts of wisdom, understanding and discernment in all I do, in all I read and in all the “storms” of information overload and confusion this life throws at me. Amen.
