Saturday after Ash Wednesday
As I quieten myself, I thank you God for always being with me, and especially right now, in this moment of prayer.
Philippians 4:4-7 NRSVue
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Like most people, I have people in my life who are takers. They call me when they need something. When I can do something for them. They never call to see how I am, just for a chat. There’s always an ask. Do I do the same to others? Are there people in my life from whom I take – and never give? Do I always remember to say thank you? To write that thank-you note, or send that thank-you text? Am I the same with God? Always asking? Never simply taking time out of my busy day to check in with Him and see where He’s at? Today, I will think of someone who has done something for me, given me their time or a gift. I will let them know I’m grateful and then “with thanksgiving, present my requests to God.”
Jesus, help me to bring to mind someone to whom I can express my gratitude and appreciation today and with whom I can share Your love. Amen.
