Presence

I come into the presence of the One who is the Way, the Truth & the Life.

Scripture Reading

1 Kings 19: 11-13 NRSVue

He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind, and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake, and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire, and after the fire a sound of sheer silence. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Then there came a voice to him that said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Reflection

Do I fill my life with noise? Is the TV or radio always on? Is my phone constantly pinging? Am I always talking? When was the last time I experienced the beauty of silence? Today, I will go back to church, in the afternoon, when the masses are done, and I will sit in silence. No phone. No distraction. Just me and God. In silence. As an expression of my gratitude, I will offer Him my time.

Closing Prayer

Abba Father, thank you for the gift of silence. Remove any blocks in my life or within me to spending time in silence with you. Speak to me out of the silence. Help me to give you the gift of myself. Help me to commit to this daily, even if only for a few short minutes.  Amen.
