Thursday after Ash Wednesday
I make a ‘Sacred Space’ in my day, praying here and now. I make a space for God to speak.
Colossians 3: 15-17 NRSVue
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
There is much in this world that I like to do. There is much, too, that I find to be a chore. Things I’d rather not do. Cleaning the house. Washing the car. Visiting an elderly relative. Going to work. Studying. But if I do what I do not like to do in the name of Jesus, then those chores become prayers. Today, when I have to do something I’d rather not do, I won’t see it as a burden. I will see it as an opportunity to give thanks to God. I will do it prayerfully. “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Dear Lord, help to turn everything I do today into a prayer of thanksgiving and a sacrifice of praise, all for your glory and our good. Amen.
