Wednesday of the 3rd week of Lent
God, you visit me like the dawn from on high. Be my light today, especially during these few moments of prayer.
Colossians 3:23-24 NRSVue
Whatever task you must do, work as if your soul depends on it, as for the Lord and not for humans, since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ.
‘I don’t like my job. I don’t like my studies. I don’t like my life. I’d rather be doing something else, somewhere else. My work isn’t appreciated. No one recognises all that I do. There has to be something better out there. Why aren’t things getting better?’ When I feel that I’m in a difficult place, doing work I don’t like, I remember that God has me here, in this place, at this time, for a reason. He can see all of my life; I can only see a piece of it. I thank Him for what He is teaching me. Or perhaps I love my job. I love my studies. I love my life. There’s nothing else I’d rather be doing. My work is appreciated. People recognise what I do. Whatever my situation, I will work as if my soul depends on it and give thanks to God, knowing that I am in the right place, for now.
Dear Lord, help me to trust that I am exactly where I am meant to be, and doing exactly what I am meant to be doing in my life at this time. If it is far from what I want, I ask you to reveal the hidden gift in it. I offer it all up to you as a prayer and as a sacrifice of praise. Amen.
