5th Sunday of Lent
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
Hebrews 10:36-38
36 For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what was promised. 37 For yet “in a very little while, the one who is coming will come and will not delay, 38 but my righteous one will live by faith. My soul takes no pleasure in anyone who shrinks back.”
We live in a world of immediate gratification. We order something online, and the next day it arrives. We can binge-watch our favourite TV programmes without having to wait a week for the next episode. If something breaks, rather than wait for it to be fixed, we replace it. Everything. Now. Right now. God doesn’t operate like that. When we pray, and our prayers go unanswered for weeks or months or even years, we need patience. We need perseverance. We need faith. Choose any saint and read about their lives. They all had patience. They believed. And they were rewarded. When God doesn’t answer immediately and we give up, perhaps we didn’t want it that badly in the first place. And he understood.
Dear God, grant me the patience to persevere, not just in prayer, but in everything I do. Help me live my faith. Amen.
