Friday after Ash Wednesday
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
2 Corinthians 5:17
17 So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; look, new things have come into being!
Is there something about you that you would like to change? Is there a bad habit you would like to break, or a good habit you would like to take up? Perhaps your nearest and dearest would like you to change something about your behaviour? Do you find yourself starting sentences with ‘I wish I’ or ‘If only I’? Rather than feel hopeless, know that in Christ, new things come into being. You can change. And if you try and fail, remember that tomorrow is a new day. You can try again. And fail again. The next day, too. And the next. Eventually, if you believe you can, you will succeed. The old will pass away.
Dear God, rather than berate myself for failing, give me the strength to try again. Give me the grace to recognise my efforts and to speak kindly to myself as I know you would do. Help me live my faith. Amen.
