Friday of the 3rd week of Lent
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
Philippians 4:11-13
11 Not that I am referring to being in need, for I have learned to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of being well-fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Many of us have lost sight of the meaning of enough. Life has become a constant struggle to be more, to have more, to do more. There are rich people who are miserable. And there are poor people who are happy. Contentment doesn’t come from external things; it comes from within. Being content with what we have doesn’t mean we don’t try for a better job or save for a bigger house. It means that these things don’t drive our lives, they don’t become our reason for living. Because inside, we are centred, grounded, at home with who we are. We are spiritually stable.
Dear God, as I examine my relationship with enough, strengthen me from within. Help me live my faith. Amen.
