Good Friday
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
1 John 1:8-10
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Who among us hasn’t, at some stage, excused our sin, minimising it by saying we didn’t hurt anyone by our action. No damage was done. There were no consequences to face. We’re deluding ourselves. There are always consequences. Denial begets more denial. If we can’t face the little things, what hope do we have of dealing with the big ones? The first step in conquering any fault is to acknowledge it. We need to face our sins, not excuse them. Admit to them, not brush them aside. Because it is only through confession, to ourselves, and to God, that we can gain forgiveness.
Dear God, give me the grace to take a hard look at my life. To be forgiven for my sins, I know that first I have to recognise them for what they are. Help me live my faith. Amen.
