Monday of Holy week
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
Isaiah 35:3-4
3 Strengthen the weak hands and make firm the feeble knees. 4 Say to those who are of a fearful heart, “Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you.”
Often, we can be so focused on our own lives, doing our own thing, that we don’t make the time to consider others. Simply making eye contact with someone on the street and smiling at them could make their day. What if ours was the only friendly face they’d seen that day? Remembering to say please and thank you in the supermarket could make a world of difference to the life of a harried worker. Buying a hot drink for a homeless person and then taking the time to chat with them could make them feel less ignored, less alone. We should never doubt the power of encouragement; when people are at their weakest, God often works through us to give them strength.
Dear God, place in my path someone I can encourage this day. Give me the grace to recognise them and act on your word. Help me live my faith. Amen.
