Proverbs 13:22

²² The good leave an inheritance to their children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous.

Reflection

Too often we understand inheritance as money and property. We work hard to leave something for our children and grandchildren so that they will have an easier life than we did. And if we don’t have children or grandchildren, perhaps we have nieces or nephews or siblings or charities we support. We see our worth in the tangible wealth we leave behind us. Yet far more valuable than tangible wealth are the values we instil in others by virtue of our good example, of the memories we created, of the lives we’ve shared.

Closing prayer

Dear God, guide me to live a life that will inspire others, not necessarily by great acts but by simple acts of kindness. Let today be the day when I start to live my life with intention. Help me live my faith. Amen.
