Monday of the 5th week of Lent
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
Psalm 90:10
10The days of our life are seventy years, or perhaps eighty, if we are strong; even then their span is only toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away.
When we’re 5, 20 seems ancient. When we’re 20, 65 seems unimaginably old – a time far in the future when we will be old and retired. But when we get there, we’re still young in our heads and hopefully in our bodies. Our time on this earth is limited. In each 24-hour day, there are 1440 minutes. Each day we are given that amount of time to do with as we will. Much of it we waste. What, though, if it were money? What if every day we had €1440 to spend – and had to spend – no carrying over. What would we spend it on? Would we be more careful with it? Would we think twice about spending 300 minutes or five hours binging on a Netflix series? Would we take 120 minutes from our family time by working late or taking work home? Today’s lesson is to spend time wisely.
Dear God, teach me to properly appreciate the time you have given me and help me to spend it wisely in your service. Help me live my faith. Amen.
