Saturday of the 1st week of Lent
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
Romans 12:3
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
If we have a talent for making money, an ear for languages, or a math brain, if we play a mean piano or excel in some part of life and receive awards and certificates and public acclaim, it’s easy to forget where our talent comes from. Pride, arrogance, and self-importance take over. We start to believe that we did all this on our own. As Christians, we are each given a unique measure of faith, i.e., spiritual gifts, that God wants us to use in his glory. To serve him, not to serve ourselves. In recognising our God-given purpose, in remembering that we owe our successes to his grace, we will be better able to do his will.
Dear God, ground me in my opinion of myself, secure in the knowledge that my success comes from you. Help me to live my faith. Amen.
