Saturday of the 3rd week of Lent
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
Deuteronomy 6:17-19
17 You must diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God and his decrees and his statutes that he has commanded you. 18 Do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, so that it may go well with you and so that you may go in and occupy the good land that the Lord swore to your ancestors, 19 thrusting out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has promised.
A conscience is that little voice that tells us someone might be watching. God is always watching. He sees everything. If we intentionally take a roll of sellotape home from the office. If we don’t validate a bus ticket. If we walk away from the cashier knowing they forgot to ring up three items or gave us too much in change. God sees. It’s not a big deal, we say. It’s a roll of tape. I was only going two stops. The supermarket charges too much anyway; they can afford the loss. Doing what is right, diligently – that takes effort. If we pay attention to the little things, we will be right in the big things, too.
Dear God, by paying more attention to what I excuse, I will become more focused on doing right. Help me live my faith. Amen.
