Saturday of the 5th week of Lent
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
James 4:1-3
1 Those conflicts and disputes among you, where do they come from? Do they not come from your cravings that are at war within you? 2You want something and do not have it, so you commit murder. And you covet something and cannot obtain it, so you engage in disputes and conflicts. You do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures.
So much of the conflict in our lives comes from the battle that rages within. We think we don’t have enough. So we want more. We get more. And we want more still. We have forgotten the meaning of enough. We’ve forgotten how to be content with what we have. We don’t need bigger, brighter, better. We need enough to live. God will never shortchange us. If we’re praying for something and he’s not answering, then we need to question our motivation. Are we asking for self-gratification? Or to better serve him with our lives?
Dear God, today I start trying to be content with what I have and recognise the meaning of enough. Help me live my faith. Amen.
