Thursday of the 2nd week of Lent
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
Galatians 5:19-23
19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.
Anything good in life is either illegal, immoral, or fattening. Or so says the fridge magnet. Is it true? When we indulge the flesh and ignore the fruits, we rationalise our behaviour. What’s the harm, we say? So I partied too hard, ate too much, and spent money I didn’t have. It’s not the end of the world. But if we spend hundreds on a night out to enjoy ourselves and then give pennies to a homeless person on the street, where’s the balance?
Dear God, place in my path someone I can serve this day. Give me the grace to recognise them and act on your word. Help me to live my faith. Amen.
