Thursday of the 5th week of Lent
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
Proverbs 22:6-7
6 Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray. 7 The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
How much better off we might all be had we learned about managing money in school. If we’d been taught the value of waiting until we could afford something before we bought it. What if we’d learned about the dangers of credit card debt, the expense of hire purchase agreements, the consequences of living beyond our means? Once we get into a debt spiral, it is difficult to get out of it. We borrow from Peter to pay Paul, moving debt from credit card to credit card. We pay tomorrow for what we enjoy today. And this is the example we set for our children and those who look to us for guidance.
Dear God, help me take the first step to getting my finances in order. Remind me that others looking to me for guidance will do as I do and not as I say. Help me live my faith. Amen.
