Wednesday of the 4th week of Lent
Lord, thank you for being my companion on life’s journey, each day, and in each moment, including this one. Help me to tune in to your presence now…
James 3:9-10
9 With it we bless the Lord[a] and Father, and with it we curse people, made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth comes a blessing and a curse. My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so.
We say our prayers. We give thanks to God for all he has given us. We ask for blessings. And then we turn around and castigate our neighbour, criticise our friends behind their backs, curse our politicians. With the same mouth, the same tongue, the same breath. Adulation and accusation. Blessing and blasphemy. Compliment and curse. How can this be? If we are serious about our faith, about living in the likeness of God, these things ought not to be.
Dear God, from now on, I will guard my tongue and be more conscious of how and what I speak. It won’t be easy, I know. But with your help, I can change. Help me live my faith. Amen.
