John 14:1-3 NRSVue

1“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.

Some thoughts on this scripture

Reflection
As we strain to imagine what lies beyond the grave, these words comfort and excite me: In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. Clouds and heavenly palaces may not mean much to people who have lived in grass huts or igloos or on the side of the road. God's mercy and hospitality are wider than our imagination. I relish Belloc's wisdom: /Kings live in Palaces, and Pigs in sties, And youth in Expectation. Youth is wise./

Reflection
God seems to desire our love and our friendship and wants our company. Whenever God meets or sees us, God's look is a look of love and welcome. We are at home with God whenever we are in the presence of Jesus. Maybe prayer is spending some time in God's home, and God's home is the heart of each man and woman.
