John 14:15-16,23-26 NRSVue

15“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. 23Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24Whoever does not love me does not keep my words, and the word that you hear is not mine but is from the Father who sent me.

25“I have said these things to you while I am still with you. 26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have said to you.

Reflection on John 14:15-16,23-26

Inspiration from 2025-06-08 Daily Prayer

Jesus understands our humanity so well and knows how poor our memories can be, especially when, like the apostles, we grow older. To guide his Church and preserve her in the truth, he promises to send the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth, but we need to trust in this promise of our Lord and be faithful to the teaching of the Church.
