John 15:1-2,5 NRSVue
1“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. 2He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. 5I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.

Some thoughts on this scripture
Reflection
Here is a new image of God. The vine-grower has a sharp knife, and a keen eye
to the vine's health. If he cuts out, it is to make the plant more vigorous
and fruitful.
Reflection
Lord, when I feel your sharp touch, I may resent it; but I trust your love
for me.
