John 3:13-17 NRSVue

13No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man., 14And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.,

16“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

17“Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Reflection on John 3:13-17

Inspiration from 2025-09-14 Daily Prayer

God, the Creator of everything, loves all that he has made, and he wants all of us to be saved. After we had thrown God’s plan for our happiness into disarray, the Trinity came up with a new plan, which was to save us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If God has given us his own beloved Son, then there is nothing he would ever refuse us that we need for our happiness. Let us turn to him with great trust and gratitude.

Further reflection

It is so common for people to associate self-examination and guilt with religion but here we are drawn to the core: God loves us and calls us to life.

The cross is full of contradictions as we speak of it in terms of life, freedom and hope. I ask God to allow the contradictory message of the Gospel to have sway in my life.
