John 5:33-36 NRSVue

33You sent messengers to John, and he testified to the truth. 34Not that I accept such human testimony, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. 36But I have a testimony greater than John’s. The works that the Father has given me to complete, the very works that I am doing, testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me.

Some thoughts on this scripture

Reflection
Always Jesus draws us back from words to works. He tells the Jews that while he respects the testimony of John the Baptist, for crucial evidence they should look at the works that Jesus has done in obedience to his Father.

Reflection
So, Lord, do I dare to ask people to look at my life, my actions, rather than rely on spoken evidence? Are my works on a par with my profession?
