Luke 17:31-37 NRSVue
31On that day, anyone on the housetop who has belongings in the house must not come down to take them away, and likewise anyone in the field must not turn back. 32Remember Lot’s wife. 33Those who try to make their life secure will lose it, but those who lose their life will keep it. 34I tell you, on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. 35There will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken and the other left.” 37Then they asked him, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the corpse is, there the eagles will gather.”

Some thoughts on this scripture
Reflection
Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem to die. He does not have much time left. He
knows that he faces the ultimate choice soon. Is that why he speaks so
vehemently about the need to choose now?
Reflection
How do I react to the atmosphere of urgency and foreboding? Am I energised?
Am I appalled?
Reflection
I may have things to say to Jesus. Perhaps I can walk with him on the road to
Jerusalem.
Reflection
Three apocalyptic visions weave in and out of one another in these chapters
of Luke: Jesus' sense of his own forthcoming Passion and death; his warning
of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans; and the second coming of Jesus
at the end of time.
Reflection
Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem to die. He does not have much time left. He
knows that he faces the ultimate choice soon. Is that why he speaks so
vehemently about the need to choose now; and about the insecurity of this
life? Remember Teresa of Avila's words to her Carmelite sisters: /Life is a
night spent in a bad inn. My sisters, let us never try to make it our resting
place./
