Wednesday 14 May •St Matthias, Apostle
Presence
The more we call on the Lord, the more we can feel His presence. Day by day, He draws us closer to His loving heart.
Freedom
“I am free.”
When I look at these words in writing,
they seem to create in me a feeling of awe.
Yes, a wonderful feeling of freedom.
Thank You, God.
Consciousness
I ask how I am within myself today.
Am I particularly tired, stressed, or off-form?
If any of these characteristics apply,
can I try to let go of the concerns that disturb me?
The Word of God
John 15:9-17 NRSVue9As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
12“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing, but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. 16You did not choose me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. 17I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.

Inspiration
Real love is proved in deeds rather than in words. Our Lord reduced all the commandments to two, and even these are really the one great commandment to love. It is out of the one heart that we love both God and neighbour. This is what our lives on earth are all about, namely to develop our own individual God-given capacity to love, so that in the end we can merge with God, who is Love.
Jesus invites all of us into an intimate friendship with him. In this relationship, he will reveal himself to us, and he will share with us, as he did with his apostles, what he has learned from his Father. Prayer is always an invitation, and it is up to us to respond to it.
Conversation
“He looked at him and loved him”. (Mark 10:21). Can I allow myself to sit in the loving gaze of Jesus, Who loves me at all times and places, in all circumstances? God always looks at me with unconditional love.
Conclusion
I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.
Amen
