Matthew 13:16-17 NRSVue

16“But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. 17Truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

Some thoughts on this scripture

Reflection
The Internet is full of reminders about the other things I need; I am prompted to think how my life would be better by joining one more group, by buying one more thing. Jesus tells me I am holy already, I am fortunate as I am. I take time to realise my eyes and ears are truly blessed.

Reflection
I think of the wisdom and insight that I have gained through living, perhaps some of it hard-won. How might I be a blessing to those who can learn from me?

Reflection
Despite the relative wealth that many people enjoy, they never seem to have quite enough. Even as I long for the fulfilment of God’s reign, I recognise that I am already blessed in many ways.

Reflection
I bring to mind simple things that I enjoy and think of them as blessings from God. There are many people who might envy me; I pray for them.

Reflection
Transfiguration reminds me that every created thing finds its fullest use as it gives witness to the glory of God.
