Matthew 7:6,12-14 NRSVue

6“Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under foot and turn and maul you.

12“In everything do to others as you would have them do to you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

13“Enter through the narrow gate, for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. 14For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Inspiration from 2024-06-25 Daily Prayer

Jesus is our greatest treasure. He is the pearl of great price in a world that seems more concerned with pearls of cut price. Lord, give us a fuller appreciation of your true riches so that we can set our hearts on them above all else.

We see the “golden rule” in this Gospel – “Do to others as you would have them do to you” – Is this something I try to do, or if I am really honest with myself, could I improve on this? This is one of the most universal teachings of Jesus, that people of every creed and nation, time and place, have held in great esteem.
