Ascension Day is commemorated around the world this week. Jesus had appeared to many after rising from the dead. What joy they must have felt on seeing the risen Lord after all hope had seemed lost following his crucifixion.

For forty days, Jesus remained with them until the time came for him to return once again to his Father in heaven. At the Ascension, Jesus was taken up into heaven, and those who witnessed this miraculous event were filled with joy and hope. They knew that the Lord had not abandoned them, but would send a helper, a comforter, a friend, the Holy Spirit, so they would no longer be alone.

We, too, can know this helper, comforter, and friend.
