18 Aon lá amháin agus é i leataobh ag guí agus na deisceabail in éineacht leis, d’fhiafraigh sé díobh: “Cé hé a deir na sluaite mise?” 19 Dúirt siad á fhreagairt: “Eoin Baiste; ach cuid eile acu Éilias, cuid eile gur fáidh éigin de na sinsir atá aiséirithe.” 20 Dúirt sé leo: “Ach cé hé a deir sibhse mé?” Agus dúirt Peadar á fhreagairt: “Críost Dé.”

21 Ach d’ordaigh sé dóibh go géar gan é seo a rá le haon duine, 22 agus dúirt: “Ní foláir do Mhac an Duine mórán a fhulaingt, agus an diúltú a fháil ó na seanóirí agus ó uachtaráin na sagart agus ó na scríobhaithe, agus a chur chun báis, agus éirí an treas lá.”
