Prayers for Life

God, hear my prayer for the dying, for those who stand at the threshold between life on earth and life with You beyond it. As they approach this holy moment of transition, may they receive the comfort of Your presence and Your gentle assurance that they will not make this journey alone.

God, you know what I need before I even ask for it. (Matthew 6:8) In your wisdom, you know what moments of joy and suffering await me today.

Compassionate God, I come to you tired and weary. My burdens are so heavy, and my suffering is hard to bear. I need your help. I need your strength in this difficult time.

God of all mercy, I open my heart to You. Hear my prayer for a successful surgery, for myself or for a loved one. I ask for the grace of peace and for wisdom for the medical team that will provide the treatment.

God, protect me, deliver me, preserve my body and my soul (Psalm 127). Provide me with a shelter from the storms of this world, a fortress in which I can dwell in peace.

In this prayer for depression, I ask you to be the lamp unto my feet in this time of darkness that seems to go on and on. Show the way.

I pray for children: Bless the children under our care, who rely on us to grow and thrive. Bless the children we know by name, by face. The ones we will never know. The ones we long to hold, the ones we worry about, the ones who are gone. The children we long to have.

God of infinite love, I come to you with a heart full of humility and sorrow. You are kind and merciful, slow to anger and rich in compassion. Look on me with love as I pray for forgiveness.

I come to you asking for help. Alleviate the pressure I feel, aid me in carrying the weight of expectations and the heaviness of obligations. Grant me clarity to see what matters.

I ask for the grace of your peace and the gift of your wisdom for the journey ahead of me. Be my compass, God, leading me deeper into your love. I want so much to make the right decision.
